Fascinated by the beautiful nature & the open-minded people living there, I moved from Kanto Region to Tamura,Fukushima in 1990. Just after the Great East Japan Earthquake,I was forced to stay at an evacuation center and then to live in the temporary house for some years. Being qualified as a Fukushima regional interpreter guide,I’ve had several chances to accompany foreign guests visiting mainly the area on the Pacific Ocean.
Recently, some visitors are enjoying touring around Tamura,Koriyama area in addition to the Seacoast Area. How about visiting the nature & the history the locals have lived with?Sometimes you can talk to the people there, and get to know how they’ve lived since 3.11.I would be happy if you find or feel something after you visit My Local Area‼

Wishing to support you as a casual personal guide interpreter. Having practiced several traditional martial arts & sports. Interested in world peace, international relations, sustainable development, and grass-roots intercultural communication. Guess my hospitable character from my profile, please.

I would like to give you a handmade guide to meet your needs. I was born and raised in a port town called Yotsukura in Iwaki. My father was a semi-professional sea urchin and abalone diver. I was good at catching clams and mussels from an early age by imitation. I still go swimming in the ocean in the summer.

I started karate when I was in college to introduce Japanese culture to the world, and I have been practicing it for more than 40 years even though I am not very good at it. I still participate in masters, expert, and old men's competitions. I have also acquired the 3rd dan in Judo, which I used to do. I have a judo physique, so I am quite thick and disadvantageous for karate.

In winter, if I have time, I go to Urabandaï to ski alone. I have no professional guiding experience as I am still a full-time teacher. I can help those who are interested in karate and skiing on their own trips. I will guide you with hospitality so that you will want to come back to Fukushima again.

Mariko Hara

Hello there! I’m Mariko. I’m a licensed Tour Guide. I was born in Fukushima and that’s where I live now, but I also lived in Tokyo for more than 30 years. Before that, I lived in Germany for three years. I have worked for an American company, a French company and a Japanese company and I have made a lot of business and personal trips to the US, Europe and Asia. Now I teach English to Japanese people and Japanese to foreigners, as well as being a tour guide. So, I think I’m quite international at this point.
My hobbies are mountain climbing, walking through the streets of the cities and towns, and Aikido, which is one of the martial arts. I also like eating local foods and drinking sake and meeting people.
What would you like to do during your trip to Japan? By understanding what you’d like to do and see, I will be able to plan the best trip for you anyplace in Fukushima, Tohoku, Tokyo and many other areas.
I’d like to help you discover the charm of Japan! See you soon!
