Shoryukan

Shoryukan

Located near the station in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, Shoryukan is a traditional ryokan with over 100 years of history. Before Iwaki became famous for Yumoto Onsen and Spa Resort Hawaiians, Shoryukan originally served as a lodging for workers during the region's thriving coal mining era.

Nearby, visitors can explore Amako Bridge, a replica of the iconic red-lacquered bridge in Iwaki’s National Treasure, the Jodo-style garden of Shiramizu Amida-do Temple. The bridge is historically linked to Princess Toku-hime, who, in the mid-12th century, built it in response to local residents' pleas after heavy rains and floods. After becoming a nun, she was known as “Toku Ama Gozen,” which influenced the bridge’s current name, Amako Bridge. In spring, the cherry blossoms along the bridge create a stunning view, providing a scenic stroll along Iwaki’s historic riverside.
