15 years on from the devastating events of the 2011 triple disaster - earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster - this guided tour provides a chance to see Fukushima's modern east coast for yourself and visit some of the major sites involved. You'll be shown around by an English-speaking guide with deep knowledge of the region and its history.

Departing from and returning to Koriyama Station - 75 minutes from Tokyo on the bullet train - this day trip will take visitors to:
- The Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum
- The ruins of Ukedo Elementary School
- The shopping hub of Namie Roadside Station
- The new March 11 Memorial Park for a moment of reflection

A deluxe lunch at the Futatabi Futaba hotel using local ingredients is included in the tour price.

The tour will be held at a special price of 5,000 yen - down from 15,000 yen - for two initial dates, Saturday 10 October and Saturday 21 November, 2026.

Newly opened in 2026, the green spaces and monuments at the Memorial Park are intended as a quiet space for reflection.

The Remains of Ukedo Elementary School in Namie Town

Known as the 'miracle school' where all students and teachers survived, Ukedo Elementary was preserved as it was when the tsunami made landfall, making it for a stark reminder of the power of natural disasters.

Take the two hour bus back across to the bullet train station at Koriyama.

Spend a day traveling to the most famous sights of the Aizu region of Fukushima by train. Begin your trip in Kitakata City, famous for its delicious ramen, sake made from the best quality mountain water, and traditional Japanese crafts. Specializing in the local Kitakata-style, there are more than 100 ramen shops in the area—the most per capita in the world! Kitakata is also famous for horse-drawn carriage tours and the city center where over 4,200 traditional kurazashiki storehouses remain or have been converted into inns, shops, and breweries. Founded some 800 years ago, this famous temple has three minor deities worshipped on the grounds.
